It is all very sad really. In Northern Ireland Brexit has increased polarisation with the moderate SDLP, UUP and Alliance parties having no seats in the GE. In one respect SF and the DUP are similar in that they have had links with terrorist groups but the DUP are even worse in that regard as there are greater indication of active links and certainly the turning of a blind eye to intimidation. It will be interesting to see how this pans out: In addition the DUP is full of protestant fundamentalists who belong more in the 17th century than the 21st and make the American Tea Party look like depraved libertarians.

Despite the fact that NI is bankrolled by the British taxpayer to the tune of around £6500 per capita (man woman and child) it is the poorest part of Ireland I’m sure they will extract a hard bargain. Many Dubliners are very happy that the UK is willing to keep bankrolling the North. It is extraordinarily generous.

    Hi Peter

I Don’t usually double post and but here a comprehensive list of the likely DUP wish list. It is from An Sionnach Fionn (the White Fox) which is fairly hard core Irish Republican so needs a bit of caution with some articles but this is a very credible list totally in line with what I know about DUP thinking:
I’m not sure what will be actually agreed some of these will be too Toxic even for the Torys.

Blimey! If that list is anywhere near acceded to then I’d be amazed if all Tories can accept them. Some of them are just dangerously backward – what would the rev Ian Paisley senior say?

    1. Sean Danaher -

Indeed. I’ve written it up as a post for tomorrow with a bit more analysis. Some might be a bit extreme even for Ian senior!
