Rural buses

While we are in the area of bus travel some may remember that a few weeks ago I mentioned a report by the Council for the Preservation of Rural England (CPRE) on local bus travel “Every village every hour”.

As local elections are coming up the CPRE now have a website with a template email you can fire off to your local councillor candidates, which, since local authorities are so denuded of cash may have the effect only of making these representatives aware – but you have to start somewhere. And since the cost is just one tenth of the annual roadbuilding programme, which is, of course ‘affordable’ – yet ignores climate change and would not be required if we had comprehensive public transport. At a minimum we can hope that there might be a better realisation of what is actually possible…

The link to send an email is here and the link to the original report is here.
